「Jinsu山の紙」という意味。11世紀末に、特にGuanghui寺（浙江省）の大蔵経の写経のために、蘇州（江蘇省）で製造された。強靱な、光沢のある紙で、両面にロウを引いてある。各地でこの紙の模造品が作られている。オリジナルの紙は麻とコウゾの紙繊維の混合である。

Nishinouchishi (or gami) after the name of the locality, is associated with the Mito clan which had encouraged its production (Edo period 1603-1868). But the start of production of this paper dates back to the Nara period (710-794).
It has multiple uses such as writing, account books, printing, making banners, umbrellas, covers for shoji. From the beginning of the Edo period, this paper is the most famous of Ibaraki Prefecture. It is a thick paper but a thinner paper (Gowanishigami) is produced for the manufacture of lanterns. It is also used for Somegami (cf. this name).
