Tengujoshi

Tengujoshi is a very thin paper which fibers are of very high quality. A silk cloth (sha) is placed on the surface of the filtering plan to eliminate marks. Its production started in the Middle Ages. It was used as tracing paper by artists especially for prints and as lining paper or in the manufacture of Mizuhiki (see Mizuhiki).
During the Meiji period (1868-1912) it was used as copy paper for typewriters. Currently it is used as a wrapper for valuables and jewelery.
It was originally manufactured in Mino (Gifu Prefecture) but now it is mostly produced at Tosa (Kochi prefecture).
