Xuan zhi

Litteraly Xuan Paper. It is the abbreviation for Xuanzhou Gongzhi or Tribute paper from Xuanzhou. This paper is produced in Jing County, Anhui Province. It is made with fibers from the bark of blue sandalwood and rice straw. It is the mixture of the two types of fibers that gives its qualities to the paper for painting and calligraphy, in particular the effect of sharp brushstrokes. In the case of paper made from Dalbergia hupeana, the paper has abusively the same name as blue sandal wood paper.
