Hodomurashi

Hodomurashi which name is associated with Karasuyama clan who had encouraged its production (Edo period 1603-1868). It is manufactured by the tamezuki method and is mainly used for printing. It is also used to make dyed papers called Santome (paper used for fabrics wrapping: the name comes from the former Portuguese colony, Sao Tome, which manufactured fabric with a popular decorative pattern in the 16th century). This paper is one of the most famous of the Edo period.
